For the Italian campus of an important international organization, VINCI Energies Building Solutions Italia — an innovative brand, belonging to the VINCI Energies Italia Group, which operates throughout the life cycle of buildings with the aim of improving comfort, efficiency and environmental performance — has created an advanced energy monitoring project using the potential of Xsona Energy, the solution vertical of our Xsona IoT platform.
After mapping the site’s single-line wiring diagrams to identify the strategic installation points of the Xsona Energy sensors, the following were mounted:
- Devices for monitoring the main electrical quantities and Power Quality at the general low voltage switchboard of the site;
- Multimeters distributed for current measurement at floor panels.
Real-time monitoring and detailed analysis
The main objective of the project was to provide the customer with a complete and timely view of the building’s energy consumption, thanks to the installation of Xsona Energy’s advanced sensors at strategic points of the electrical system.
These tools collect energy consumption data in real time – processed and returned to the customer by the Xsona IoT platform – and allow:
- High-granularity measurements, monitoring complex parameters such as voltage, current, and harmonics to ensure precise power quality diagnosis;
- Distributional analysis, identifying current flows and locating areas of high consumption to improve overall resource management.
In this way, the customer has a detailed overview that allows timely intervention in the event of anomalies or inefficiencies.
Initial results and operational optimization
A concrete example of the results obtained concerns the monitoring of consumption for lighting. In fact, the system, through a display of heatmaps that differentiate consumption at different times and days of the week in a color scale from hot to cold, made it possible to detect the areas where there was energy consumption despite the absence of activity.
Thanks to the data provided by the Xsona Energy sensors, it was discovered that the lighting system remained active without operational need.
Identifying this inefficiency made it possible to immediately implement corrective actions, i.e. configure the lighting system to be switched off in the event of an absence of activity or personnel.
The intervention has had a positive impact on several fronts:
- Energy savings, with a significant reduction in consumption during non-operating hours;
- Cost reduction, thanks to the reduction of energy requirements;
- Environmental sustainability, through cutting waste and reducing the carbon footprint of the building.
Historical trends and future forecasts
Data collection is not limited to real-time monitoring!
Thanks to the Xsona Energy solution, historical data is analyzed to identify patterns and trends. Through a system based on artificial intelligence algorithms, the Xsona IoT platform processes data and is able to:
- Predict future consumption, supporting proactive energy planning;
- Progressively optimize predictive models, improving accuracy by comparing forecasts to actuals on a daily basis.
This predictive ability translates into more conscious energy management and better resource allocation.
Final evaluations and economic impact
The project created for this customer, the result of the synergy between VINCI Energies Building Solutions Italia and Axians Italia, not only offers advanced monitoring tools, but promotes a culture of efficiency and sustainability in line with the needs of the most innovative organizations.
Thanks to the integration of energy consumption data with tariffs and costs defined at national and European level, an economic monitoring system has been developed capable of:
- Provide a clear view of current energy expenditure items;
- Produce future economic projections based on consumption forecasts, helping to plan optimization and cost containment strategies.
The combination of advanced technologies, predictive algorithms and an integrated view between consumption and costs makes Xsona Energy an ideal solution to meet the challenges of modern energy management.
