Axians Italia, in synergy with VINCI Energies Building Solutions Italia — an innovative brand, belonging to the VINCI Energies Italia Group, which operates throughout the life cycle of buildings with the aim of improving comfort, efficiency and environmental performance — has contributed to enhancing the Xsona IoT platform, bringing innovation and intelligence to building energy monitoring.
For a 200-square-meter flagship store – open every day from 9:00 to 20:00 – of a well-known retail brand, an advanced energy monitoring project was implemented by integrating the Xsona Energy solution with environmental and occupancy data detection devices.
This approach has made it possible to optimize consumption management and identify inefficiencies, supporting the customer in reducing operating costs and increasing environmental sustainability.
Real-time monitoring and analysis of loads
The intervention focused on the general low voltage switchboard (QGBT), monitoring both total consumption and the distribution of the main energy loads:
- Air conditioning (Air-to-water heat pump)
- LED Wall
- Interior lighting
- Electric Driving Force
Thanks to the advanced sensors of the Xsona Energy solution, integrated with specific devices for monitoring output currents, it was possible to aggregate and analyze the lighting and electric power loads, providing the customer with a clear and detailed overview of consumption.
Advanced Analytics from the Control Room
The monitoring conducted by the Control Room of VINCI Energies Building Solutions Italia was divided into several analytical phases:
- Monthly comparison of consumption, based on the measurement of kWh and their variation over time;
- Weekly consumption heatmap, to identify the days and time slots with the highest intensity of energy use;
- Analysis of the average daily consumption (kWh/day), to assess operational efficiency in the different months;
- Breakdown of consumption by user, in order to identify the sources of greatest impact and optimize the main loads.
Initial results and targeted interventions
Already from the first month of monitoring, the analysis of the data has highlighted anomalous consumption outside opening hours. By cross-referencing this information with environmental data, it was deduced that the air conditioning system remained active even during closing hours.
The identification of this inefficiency led to timely intervention, optimizing the management of the air conditioning and ensuring automatic shutdown during non-operational hours.
The results were tangible:
- Reduction of out-of-hours consumption, with a positive impact on overall efficiency;
- Reduction of operating costs, thanks to a more conscious management of energy resources;
- Improving environmental sustainability, reducing energy waste and the carbon footprint of the store.
Reliable forecasts in a short time
One of the most significant aspects of the project was the speed with which the consumption forecasting algorithm was trained.
In just two months, the data collected by Xsona Energy sensors and processed by the Xsona IoT platform, generated a highly accurate predictive model, with a difference between expected and actual consumption of only 80 kWh in the third month.
This result allowed the customer to proactively plan and optimize the use of energy resources.
Final evaluations
The Xsona Energy solution, with its advanced monitoring and consumption prediction capabilities, has proven to be an essential tool for optimizing the energy management of a retail environment.
By combining IoT technologies, advanced analytics and targeted interventions, the project supported the client in improving its operational efficiency and adopting a more sustainable approach.
