What is Smart Working really?
The delicate phase of the pandemic has brought many people and companies closer to remote work, which is far from what smart working really is.
Smart working is an approach to work that restores autonomy and responsibility to the individual, giving the possibility to adopt a sustainable lifestyle model in perfect balance between professional commitments and personal interests and needs.
One project, multiple objectives
We wanted to show what it meant to us to work smart.
Thus, within the VINCI Energies Italia Group we have promoted an ambitious initiative: Itinerant Smart Working.
Itinerant Smart Working is a project born with multiple objectives:
- Demonstrate how technology is able to connect places and people everywhere by rendering a hybrid, intelligent, innovative way of working concrete.
- Show what smart working means to us, as Axians Italia and as VINCI Energies Italia Group – an approach to work that gives everyone the opportunity to adopt a sustainable model of work-life balance.
- Moving the experience of work outside the urban centers, rediscovering villages and places immersed in nature, to transfer awareness of environmental heritage that we must commit ourselves to protect.
- Promote close-to-home tourism in an innovative and intelligent way, slowly and sustainably.
The Pilot Stage
On 30th and 31st May 2022 a group of thirteen people from the Axians Italia headquarters in Rome experienced smart working as a guest at the Municipality of Bassano Romano, a small village in Tuscia.
Two intense days in which the moments of work were alternated with activities of team-building discovering the territory.
On this occasion, in the presence of the Mayor of Bassano Romano, Emanuele Maggi, and the Mayor of Oriolo Romano, Emanuele Rallo, we presented our Smart City solution in the IOT technological context that can enable the promotion of advanced digital services for Italian Municipalities.
On the morning of Monday May 30th,the Councilor for Tourism of the Lazio Region, Valentina Corrado, participated remotely and gave sincere words of praise for this initiative and for our company, recognizing the value and foresight of the Smart Working Itinerant project.
A precious opportunity for us to make our company known even outside urban contexts, creating opportunities for collaboration with Local Public Administrations.
A great opportunity for the municipalities that host us, to promote their territories.
The Second Stage
During 2022 we carried out the second stage of Itinerant Smart Working.
This time it was the turn of a group of twenty-one people from the Axians Italia offices in Vicenza and Udine who, on Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 October, experienced two days of smart working as guests of the Municipality of Malcesine (VR).
Malcesine is one of the 20 Venetian municipalities that won the “Borghi” tender of the Ministry of Culture, aimed at promoting projects for the valorisation of small Italian towns, integrating objectives of protection of cultural heritage with the needs of social and economic revitalisation, relaunch employment and the fight against depopulation.
The Itinerant Smart Working project, therefore, fits perfectly into the setting of this small village overlooking Lake Garda which welcomed the Axians Italia initiative with the right spirit and interest.
The Third Stage
On 4 and 5 April 2023, the Municipality of Ostana (CN) hosted the third stage of the Itinerant Smart Working project.
Colleagues from the North West Italy area (Milan and Turin) participated to this stage, taking the opportunity to experiment working in smart mode and enjoying the view of Monviso, as well as taking part in discovery activities of the territory in close contact with nature and the animals that populate it.
The participants experienced an intense and regenerating stage in a village that preserves rural charm in a landscape frame embellished by the Alps, and which boasts a history of rebirth thanks to infrastructural investments aimed at making Ostana a place to live and work from, embracing the full values of the project.
The future of the project
That of the Lazio Region at the Municipality of Bassano Romano is only the first stage.
We intend to bring the project to all the Regions of Italy where Axians is based:

- Friuli-Venezia Giulia
- Trentino-South Tyrol
- Emilia-Romagna
- Tuscany
- Campania
- Apulia
