Arzignano safer, New Technologies at the service of Law Enforcement

Vicenza, 16th October 2021. Innovation and safety; these are the two buzzwords of the project carried out by Axians, a leading company in the digital transformation of the Vinci Energies Italia Group, which, thanks to the technologies of Targa System and Avigilon, has created a new security and video surveillance system for the municipality of Arzignano.

The new system – presented this morning in the presence of the Minister for Disability Erika Stefani, the Mayor Alessia Bevilacqua, the Prefect Pietro Signoriello and the Commander of the Local Police Antonio Berto, in addition to representatives of the companies involved – will allow both vehicle tracking and traffic monitoring as well as context video surveillance.

Minister Erika Stefani spoke about the value of the project: “This is a system of absolute efficiency because it allows you to create a real network of information between all law enforcement agencies, putting them in the best possible conditions to carry out their work. Having control of the territory today is very difficult and for this we need the help of technology, but I want to tell citizens not to fear for their privacy. In fact, the best safety net is created by honest citizens who are the most important resource for a community.”

Axians coordinated the installation activities and adapted the two technological systems to the needs of the Municipality of Arzignano and its law enforcement agencies, collaborating with them to make the system as performant as possible.

Stefano Soattin, Head of Sales PA Nord – Axians Italia, presented the project: “In activities like these it is essential to create the right synergy between technology and the needs of the territories because in addition to the value of the plants, there must be the value of adaptation to the required function. The real added value was to collaborate with the administration and the Police Corps to design the digital systems tailored to the needs of the city and make them easily accessible by those who have to work on them every day, only in this way it was possible to achieve the best result.”

The project, which today has 29 Targa System gates and 40 context cameras for video surveillance, was carried out by the municipality of Arzignano thanks to some regional funds received for the implementation of these systems. The idea comes from afar when already in 2016 there were the first installations. The good results produced have pushed the municipality and the region to pursue this path, making Arzignano an increasingly attractive city for large companies that are choosing this area to invest and set up their headquarters.

The importance for the city was underlined by the Mayor Alessia Bevilacqua: “This is a system that represents absolute excellence in terms of safety and prevention. We wanted to invest in this project to continue to be at the service of citizenship, a discreet but always present guardian. An intelligent system that is always in support of law enforcement. In particular, in this case there was a beautiful synergy between public and private that allows us to improve every day. Today we are launching a project that aims to improve the quality of life of our citizens.”

In particular, thanks to Targa System, it will be possible to carry out searches, through a single portal, to quickly and easily check the license plates of the cars of all the municipalities participating in the project and using the same program but also monitor the flow of traffic and track the movement of certain vehicles. This will allow not only to trace cars without insurance, but also those cars that have committed crimes or had accidents. The Avigilon technology, already in use, allows facial recognition and quick and secure search both for recordings in progress and within previous recorded videos as well as the ability to report in real time any violations of the law or unusual movements of things or people.

The Prefect Pietro Signoriello also expressed himself positively on the impact of this way of managing public order: “There is a human element that makes Arzignano a real example to be taken as a model because it is perceived that there is a work of synergy that brings concrete results. When there is technology in the field, even operators feel calmer in doing their job, it is as if he were one of the members of the team. The proof of this are the numbers. In the last 12 years we have recorded an 80% reduction in theft. In particular, in the last three years 2017-2020 there has been a 23% drop in all criminal events and also in these months of 2021 there is a further decrease of 16%. This must be given credit and acknowledgement to all those who have made it possible to achieve this result.”
